If you’re considering contact lenses for the first time or if your current lenses aren’t as comfortable as they should be, a dedicated contact lens exam in Waterdown is your next step.

At Flamborough Family Eyecare, we provide custom lens assessments, precision fittings, and ongoing support for new and experienced wearers. Led by Dr. Todd Ruhl, a nationally recognized expert in contact lens fitting and specialty lens care, we help patients of all ages and prescriptions wear lenses with comfort and confidence.

What Is a Contact Lens Exam, and How Is It Different From a Regular Eye Exam?

A standard eye exam checks your overall vision and eye health. A contact lens exam goes further. Because lenses rest directly on the eye, we perform additional tests to ensure they’re safe, comfortable, and provide sharp, stable vision.

During your contact lens evaluation, we assess:

  • Corneal shape and surface health
  • Tear film stability and dry eye symptoms
  • Prescription accuracy for distance and near tasks
  • Eyelid positioning and blink pattern
  • Current lens fit (if you're already wearing contacts)

These additional measurements enable us to recommend the best type of lens, not just for your prescription, but also for your eyes and how you use them daily.

Am I a Candidate for Contact Lenses?

Most patients can wear contact lenses safely and comfortably with the right fit and guidance. You may be a candidate if you:

  • Want glasses-free vision for work, sports, or daily use
  • Have healthy eyes and a stable prescription
  • Are committed to proper lens care and hygiene
  • Have previously tried contacts but experienced discomfort

Even if you’ve been told you’re “hard to fit,” we offer specialty options that work for conditions like dry eye, keratoconus, or high astigmatism.
