Comprehensive Vision Exams for Children, Adults & Seniors

At Flamborough Family Eyecare, we tailor every eye exam to your age, lifestyle, and visual needs. Whether it’s your child’s first checkup or a routine screening in your retirement years, we focus on early detection, education, and long-term care.

Eye Exams for Children

Good vision is essential for learning and development. That’s why we recommend children have their first eye exam by age 6 months, again at age 3, and yearly once they start school. Many vision problems develop early, but with routine care, they can often be corrected before they affect learning.

During a children’s eye exam in Waterdown, we check:

  • Visual acuity (distance and near)
  • Eye alignment and tracking
  • Binocular vision
  • Colour vision
  • Prescription needs
  • Overall eye health

We also take part in Ontario’s Eye See…Eye Learn® program, which provides free exams and glasses for eligible kindergarten students.

Eye Exams for Adults

Adults often assume they only need an exam when something feels off, but eye health issues can develop long before symptoms appear. We recommend a full, comprehensive eye exam every 1–2 years, depending on your age, risk factors, and screen time exposure.

Your exam includes:

  • Refractive testing for glasses or contact lens prescriptions
  • Eye pressure measurement (glaucoma screening)
  • Digital retinal imaging
  • Visual field testing, if needed
  • Screen-related eye strain evaluation
  • Dry eye symptom review

Whether you need updated glasses or want to monitor your eye health, we take the time to explain your results and treatment options clearly.

Eye Exams for Seniors

Vision changes with age, and some changes occur without warning. We offer comprehensive senior eye exams in Waterdown for patients aged 65 and older, with a focus on detecting age-related eye diseases and implementing proactive monitoring. We screen for:

  • Cataracts
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetic eye disease
  • Dry eye syndrome
  • Peripheral vision loss

These visits include retinal imaging, pressure testing, and advice on how to protect your sight and safety as you age. OHIP covers annual eye exams for patients 65+, and we’re happy to help clarify your eligibility.

Eye Exams for Diabetic Patients

Diabetes can affect your eyes even before symptoms appear. That’s why we offer diabetic eye exams in Waterdown with advanced imaging tools to detect early signs of diabetic retinopathy and other complications.

We coordinate care with your family doctor or endocrinologist and send a full medical report after each visit.
