Clear Vision for the Classroom, Playground, & Everyday Confidence

Your child’s eyesight supports more than just how they see. It shapes how they learn, move, and feel every day. At Flamborough Family Eyecare, we offer children’s eye exams in Waterdown that are gentle, thorough, and tailored to the needs of real families.

Whether your child is starting kindergarten or struggling with screen time at school, we’re here with expert care and a calm, welcoming environment that Waterdown parents have trusted for over a decade.

Why Eye Exams Matter for Kids

Not all vision problems are obvious. Some kids won’t mention blur, discomfort, or eye strain because they assume their vision is normal. Even mild issues can impact their ability to read, focus, take part in sports, or remain engaged in class.

With regular eye exams, we can:

  • Detect problems early before they affect learning or development.
  • Prevent long-term vision complications.
  • Make screen time more comfortable.
  • Support academic performance and confidence in school settings.

When to Book Your Child’s Eye Exam

We follow the recommended schedule for pediatric vision care in Ontario:

Infants and Toddlers (6 months – 2 years)
The first exam helps rule out eye conditions present at birth and confirms that both eyes are developing properly.

Preschoolers (2 – 5 years)
Around age 3, we check depth perception, eye coordination, and early signs of vision misalignment.

School-Aged Children (6 – 19 years)
Once in school, annual exams help monitor myopia progression, screen for related eye strain, and identify any changes that may affect reading or classroom focus.

Every child’s exam is tailored to their age, attention span, and comfort level. We use non-invasive, kid-friendly diagnostic tools, including high-resolution imaging when appropriate, to detect issues before symptoms start. Your child’s visit may include:

  • Vision and acuity testing for near and far
  • Eye teaming and focusing assessments
  • Prescription evaluation
  • Eye muscle balance and alignment
  • Eye health screening using gentle light-based technology
  • Education for parents on screen time and eye safety

We explain every result in plain language so you know exactly how your child is doing and what comes next.

Eye See…Eye Learn® Program

We proudly take part in Ontario’s Eye See…Eye Learn® program, which offers free eye exams and glasses to eligible kindergarten students. If your child is entering JK or SK and hasn’t had a recent exam, they may qualify for a fully covered visit and a complimentary pair of glasses.
